On Wednesday 17th April, I will be hosting a free coaching event at NineteenTwenty in London. NineteenTwenty is a great Pool Bar in Clerkenwell, an easy walk from Barbican and Farringdon tube stations.
I will be there between 6pm and 8pm, and will be available to offer quick tips and advice to help players improve their game. There is no need to book, just come along and say Hello!
The First 8-ball Trickshot App – Impress and Hustle Your Friends With Your Pool ProwessThe first trickshot App that teaches you how to hustle and play pool trick-shots like a pro launched today. Created by World 8 Ball Trickshot champion Steve Daking, this free App called Trickshot! has a host of videos giving step-by-step instructions to dazzle your friends and impress on the pool table. A number of videos are free including Grand National, Complete The Rack and Alcatraz; each show in detail how to set up and execute each trick-shot flawlessly. The trickshots vary in levels of difficulty so that you can hone your skill and move onto more complicated ones.
Complete your trickshot education with the App’s dictionary of Pool Slang and the US/UK translations for pool terminology. The UK is the second largest player of pool, behind the US and Canada with 5.2m people playing pool each week.

Explaining the bottle trick on Sky Sports
The first two episodes of the 2012 World 8 Ball Pool Championship programmes have now hit the screens of Sky Sports here in the UK.
The first episode featured the Women’s final between Sue Thompson (Scotland) and Sharon Wright (England), programme number two presented the first Men’s team final – England v Wales.
While I was in Blackpool introducing the players and teams into the World Championship Arena, I also filmed a number of segments for the television production. The first two of these have now been shown as part of the programmes. In ‘Steve Daking’s Masterclass’, so far I have explained a little about the break shot in English Pool and last week I performed a trickshot with some balls balance on top of a bottle – I even manged to pot a couple too!
In future episodes I will be talking about how spin works after it’s applied to the cueball, and performing a very quick trickshot.
The World 8 Ball Arena
The dates for the World 8 Ball Pool Championship coverage on Sky Sports have been announced. The programmes start on Wednesday 3rd October and conclude seven weeks later on 14th November with the Men’s Individual Final. Each programme will be broadcast several times, with repeat showings within 24 hours of the first broadcast.
