caticonslite_bm_alt 8 Ball Hotshots on Manchester United TV

A while back I hosted a show for MUTV.  Sharing some pool tips, tricks and hustles with some football stars from the biggest club in the world. They are a great bunch of lads, and we had a fun day filming.  The show goes out on MUTV tonight – watch it if you can!

Write up from the MUTV Website:

Four Manchester United players recently traded the training pitch for a pool table – with MUTV's cameras capturing all the action.

Reds goalkeepers Anders Lindegaard and Tomasz Kuszczak plus strikers Kiko Macheda and Mame Biram Diouf all picked up pool cues for a practice session with world trick shot champion Steve Daking, followed by a mini tournament amongst themselves.

To see the players learning how to hustle and attempting tricks, and to find out which United player is top dog at pool, watch 8-Ball Hot-Shots on MUTV at 21:00 GMT this Sunday, 22 January.

To enjoy 8-Ball Hot-Shots and other exclusive shows, subscribe to MUTV.

caticonslite_bm_alt Leicester Mercury Sports Awards with Willie Thorne

Setting up a a trick shot for the crowd with the help of an assistant

It was busy night for me at the Leicester Mercury Sports Awards yesterday. I had the honour of providing entertainment for the 450 guests before they took their seats for the Awards Ceremony at Leicester Tigers’ Welford Road Stadium.

Me with Willie

It was great to be able to perform at an event attended by so many celebrities from the world of sport and entertainment. I had the pleasure of sharing a dressing room with the evening’s host, snooker legend Willie Thorne, who also helped me with some practice before the show!

During the evening, another cueman, World Snooker Number One, Mark Selby was crowned Sportsman of the Year, while Whitwick athlete Gemma Steel won the Sportswoman of the Year trophy.

The ceremony included a Lifetime Achievement award for the first time. It went to former Leicester City and Leicestershire CCC player Graham Cross and was presented by William Roache, Coronation Street's Ken Barlow.

After the ceremony, entertainment was provided by the soulful X-Factor star, Andy Abraham.

The event has been running for over 15 years, but it was the first time it was organised by Champions (UK) plc. Their team did a fantastic job, bringing some real showbiz sparkle to the awards. It was fantastic to be just a small part of the proceedings.

caticonslite_bm_alt Pool Exhibition at the Houses of Parliament

Doing something tricky for Her Majesty's Government

Me with Michaela

I had some fun at the House of Commons last night, performing at the annual Annie’s Bar Pool Tournament.   The competition is open to MPs, the winner getting £1,500 to donate to a charity of their choice.

It’s an interesting night, with some surreal moments, when I first picked up a pool stick I never imagined that I would be playing comedy trickshots at the heart of British Government in the most historic venue a pool tournament has ever been played in!

Add to that, there were a few famous faces – Barry Hearn made an appearance,  and Michaela Tabb was there to see fair play.   The event, staged by Rileys, was won by Gregg McClymont, member of parliament for Cumbernauld, Kilsyth and Kirkintilloch East.

My show went down well, I did a 30 minute spot between the semi-finals and final – I chose shots with lots of audience participation, the former Minster for Sport held my basket for the ‘Rapid Fire’ trickshot.

Other MPs involved:  The event was sponsored in the Commons by Jim Fitzpatrick (Poplar and Limehouse) and hosted by my good friend Steve Pound (Ealing North). My thanks go to Stephen Hepburn (Jarrow) who let me read his mind for the purposes of entertainment.  SAM Leisure supplied the very stylish 'Le Lambert' table for the event.

Soccer AM – Skill Skool

Steve with Rocket from Soccer AM, Carly from Riley's Luton and Snooker Pro Nic Barrow

I had a day out yesterday, filming a segment for Sky's Soccer AM. The show goes out live every Saturday morning on Sky 1, and usually features a 'Skill Skool' where very talented footballers compete in a head to head using their soccer skills.

As a bit of a change, the producers decided to stage a trickshot challenge to tie in with the final weekend of the World Snooker Championships at the Crucible.

So I headed down to Riley's in Luton with my bag of tricks to face snooker professional and IBSF Head Coach, Nic Barrow, in a trick shot showdown. We got three shots each – judging will be done live on the show on Saturday 30th April. Fingers crossed!
