Pool Coaching

Like any sport, it’s more fun when you know how to play the game, so I am passionate about pool coaching.

I have been coaching players of all standard for nearly 20 years, and over that time I have learnt so much about how to play the game, and more importantly how to pass that knowledge onto others.

I have put that accumulated knowledge into a number of coaching products & services.  These are the products I wanted when I first started playing.

In recent years my coaching products have been endorsed by all the main organisations, and I have been appointed as the ‘Head of Coaching‘ for the World Eightball Pool Federation, English Pool Association and Universities Pool Council.

Why you need a pool coach

In many other sports coaching is part of the culture.  In pool, a lot of players will deride those who seek help with their game – like it’s a bad thing to want to learn.  That is something that has always puzzled me….  Professional coaching can help a player to achieve a standard they never would without it.  I have taught players who continue to exceed their expectations and achieve more than they ever thought possible.

Most of what I have learned has been the hard way – spending years on the road playing in tournaments and exhibitions and learning from my mistakes.

That means I can provide a shortcut for players who want to learn.  I have done all those miles, played all those frames, and made all those mistakes so my students don’t have to.

In most professional sports, all the top players have a coach.  In some sports, the top players have several coaches, looking at different aspects of their game.  However long you have been playing, there is always something to learn, I am still learning now!  If you are serious about playing pool, you need some input from a coach – no question about it.  It will save you time, money and it will make you better player.

Private 1-2-1 Coaching

Due to my many other commitments, I only have time to coach a small number of students on a 1-2-1 basis.  Most of those travel to my home club: Mr Pools near Colchester in Essex. Some players make a trip of several hundred miles for their regular lessons.

I prefer to work with players long term as it is the only real way to get results.  Therefore initially all of my students undertake a course of lessons, which can take from between 8 to 18 months to complete.

At the end of that course, we will have covered all the basics in great detail and the players should have an deep understanding of the game.  The course is not just about quick fixes, it’s about giving players the knowledge to analyse and correct any problems that may arise in the future without outside assistance.

Players who complete the first course can then continue to learn on an ongoing basis, refining their skills to take their game to a higher level.

I enjoy working with all standards of players, from novice through to fellow professionals.

Places are strictly limited. However, as a player completes a course of lessons, a space opens up for a new student. So if you are interested, let me know and I will put you on my list.

Steve with 8 Ball Academy Coach, Michael Beeston

8 Ball Academy courses are designed to train players to become pool coaches. The course contains everything a player needs to become an official coach. On the course, delegates learn how to teach players and get paid for doing so.

Those who attend are trained in a carefully constructed syllabus that can be taught to players of all standards. All the things that every player should know but never get taught.

We have designed comprehensive lesson plans, so that our coaches know what to teach – the quality is kept high as nothing is left out. Every aspect of the game is covered in detail.

Delegates who attend the 8 Ball Academy Courses and pass our examination qualify as World Eightball Pool Federation, English Pool Association & Universities Pool Council official coaches.

Those who attend the course don’t need to be professional players, however a good basic knowledge of the game is an advantage. More important are communication skills and enthusiasm to learn new things.
