Carling – Trick Shot

It was great to be involved in Carling’s new £9.6m campaign, a new series of adverts with echoes of the previous ‘I bet he drinks Carling Black Label’ ads of the 1980s & 90s.

The first ad is entitled ‘Trick Shot’ and involves one of the new Carling duo potting every ball on the table with the help of a kind of “funfair for pool balls” built on several tables.

As technical consultant, I potted every ball you see go into a pocket – including the 8 Ball that bounces all around the pocket before dropping in the hole.  I also got to perform my trickshot show at the press launch!

8 Ball Hotshots on Manchester United TV

A while back I hosted a show for MUTV.  Sharing some pool tips, tricks and hustles with some football stars from the biggest club in the world. They are a great bunch of lads, and we had a fun day filming.  The show goes out on MUTV tonight – watch it if you can!

Write up from the MUTV Website:

Four Manchester United players recently traded the training pitch for a pool table – with MUTV's cameras capturing all the action.

Reds goalkeepers Anders Lindegaard and Tomasz Kuszczak plus strikers Kiko Macheda and Mame Biram Diouf all picked up pool cues for a practice session with world trick shot champion Steve Daking, followed by a mini tournament amongst themselves.

To see the players learning how to hustle and attempting tricks, and to find out which United player is top dog at pool, watch 8-Ball Hot-Shots on MUTV at 21:00 GMT this Sunday, 22 January.

Cannon the Bottle

Pocket the red ball and get the black ball out of trouble in the same shot. It's 3 dimensional pool!

Child’s Play

Another simple shot that is used in other more elaborate shots. However, there is something elegant about the simple set-up and the way the balls find their ways into tthe pockets.  You need to do some work to get the cue ball in too!

3 Clear

This Pool Trick forms the basis for some other shots. The principle of potting two balls set near the middle pocket by playing across the face of the outer ball is used in many other tricks, and so is the idea of taking the cue ball around the table from that position. You need practice and a reasonably good table to pull this one off.
